Peppery present the return of

LO’JO

bog-05.jpg (105288 bytes)

Ipswich Caribbean Club Friday 5th June 2009.  Door open 8pm

The much anticipated return of this BBC World Music Award nominated French band!

The band hails from Anger, on the banks of the river Loire, but their music shows kaleidoscopic global influences. Lo’Jo has an international reputation generated by a mesmerising live act and a string of fine recorded performances on their nine excellent albums.

Travelling is part of the creative process for Lo'Jo and the group have roamed the four corners of the earth performing and more importantly meeting and collaborating with sympathetic souls. In 2001 they helped to organise the first Festival in the Desert in the Sahara, an event which has since taken on an almost mythical status. They have also appeared in prestigious WOMAD festivals all over the world.

The songs, hot from the pen of lead singer and one-off gallic visionary Denis Péan, are snappily dressed in a polyglot mixture of French musette, chanson, African, Arabic, gypsy, dub, funk and jazzy sounds that makes Lo'Jo's music so unique and indefinable. The Nid el Mourid sisters, Nadia and Yamina, add superbly atmospheric vocals, and the band is completed by the by the rhythm section of Nicholas 'Kham' Meslien on bass and Matthieu Rousseau on drums. Their show in ’08 at The New Wolsey Theatre was, by common consent, one of the finest live music events ever seen in the town.

Lo’Jo’s new CD ‘Cosmophono’ is set for release in Spring 2009.

"Probably one of the best live bands in the world right now." The Independent

"Lo’Jo should be playing big stadiums and festivals. Anyone able to catch them in a small club should count themselves very lucky." The Guardian

"Lo'Jo has the power to mesmerise and delight with every tune." Billboard

"If they come within a hundred miles of your town, you must go and see them." Charlie Gillett (BBC)

Tickets are now on sale from The New Wolsey Theatre Box Office on 01473 295900.
